*~*Manic Monday*~*

Funny quotes for some back to school fun…

“If there were no schools to take the children away from home part of the time, the insane asylums would be filled with mothers.” ~Edgar W. Howe

“Labor Day is a glorious holiday because your child will be going back to school the next day. It would have been called Independence Day, but that name was already taken.” ~Bill Dodds

...Today is back to school for the entire Scottsdale district. This may be a relief for some and a rush for others! I cannot believe how early some of the schools are starting this year, I mean especially when the weather is still triple digits, and the children are outside playing! That’s crazy and not like it use to be, when Labor Day weekend marked the beginning of the school year. Back to work for the teachers as well. I’m sure the novelty of vacation has worn off by now. I assume that it was enough sleeping in for the summer.

Are you looking for the best happy hours in the valley?

"A three-inch rain in Phoenix means three inches between drops." ~Local Saying

"I'll take heat rash over frost bite any day."~Ken Travous…I can very much agree with this quote!

Hope that your weekend is fabulous. Mine is being spent relaxing, packing, and doing laundry! At least I am beating the heat inside with the air conditioning. Summer is almost over, but that doesn’t mean that Arizona is getting cooler anytime soon.

  • If you’re looking for live music then check out Scottsdale’s leading live music spot, Martini Ranch. Tonight has a great lineup, DJ Randy at 9 Pm and then Javier Garcia and Rock Lobster at 10:30 PM. This venue also has very well known singers who come throughout the year. For a calendar of events visit, http://www.martiniranchaz.net/calendar.php

  • Beer is always the drink of choice during the summer months. It is perfect for parties, gatherings, and good times with friends. Four Peaks Brewing Company is the local spot of choice with a peach flavored ale, malty sweet brew, and delicious beer battered fries; you can’t go wrong with this location. In the cooler months the patio is a good spot to gather with friends and family.

  • Eldorado pool in South Scottsdale wants you to celebrate tonight with Hawaiian Luau. The event runs from 5 to 8 PM and will have live hula dancers, music, activities, and games. For details, call 480-312-2484.

With summer coming to an end many of us will be cleaning out our closets. Vista del Camino is looking for children’s and teen used clothing for the clothing bank. Sizes from infant to adults are welcomed and can be dropped off from 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday at the center located at 7700 E. Roosevelt St. Call Pat Leos at 480-312-0064 for more information.

*~*THURSDAY*~*

Happy Thirsty Thursday, enjoy one of the best days of the week and the rest of your weekend!

"Successful people are always looking for opportunities to help others.
Unsuccessful people are always asking, "What's in it for me?"

— Brian Tracy

It was a very hot and humid morning! I was out playing tennis and I felt like I was in Florida there for a few hours, miserable. I can take the heat, but as soon as the clouds come and the humidity percentage rises, I don't do very well. Not only that, but my right arm is killing me from working out with the trainer and then playing tennis- ah, my right arm just wants a break!

We will see temperatures over 110 for probably the next five days or so and hopefully a little bit of rain, we need it! Lucky for me, I am leaving for California tomorrow and will be enjoying the much cooler weather in San Diego.

What should you do this weekend?
  • Check out Roaring Fork's all night, all-summer happy hour! The fun starts at 4 PM and you can receive up to half-off appetizers, salads, and entrees. Domestic beers are $3, $4 well drinks, and $5 margaritas and martinis. This restaurant is cheap enough for people being affected by the economy, but still nice enough to not be reminded of your money troubles. The setting is low-lit and rustic. For more information visit, http://www.eddiev.com/
  • Visit one of the valley's newest shopping centers on the Scottsdale/Phoenix border, CityNorth. With popular bars and restaurants such as Kona Grill and Blue Martini you won't be disappointed. To read more about it, http://www.citynorthaz.com/pr/CityNorthRestaurants.pdf
  • If you want a fun and laid back atmosphere with good music then check out Sugar Daddy’s in Old Town off Scottsdale road. Friday they have a happy hour from 3 to 7 PM with $2 Heineken, Coronas, and Appetizers. Other drink specials are also available such as $5 Crown Royal all day every day
  • If you’re going out to dinner with the ladies then check out Pasta Brioni. They have happy hour Thu-Sat from 4:30-6:30 PM which features ½ price appetizers, well drinks, and domestics. These specials are in the bar area. This restaurant is known for their good looking male waiters who even have their own calendar! The food is Italian and delicious!

For the next few weeks I will be traveling and won’t be around too much, but when I get back I will have plenty of new ideas to share and things to say! I appreciate all the followers and hope that you enjoy what you read. I hope your summer is wonderful.

Lounge in leather chairs at the bar and sip on drinks like the chocolate chip-cookie dough martini, sounds delicious. For pictures and more information, http://www.myspace.com/crownroom
Technology Info...Looking to purchase an IPhone? Want one for under 100 dollars? Then refurbished is the way to go, http://apple20.blogs.fortune.cnn.com/2009/07/13/the-79-refurbished-iphone/. *TV Dinner Tuesday Flyer at the Canal Restaurant.*

*~*Hope your weekend was lovely! Manic Monday is surely an excuse to go out and have a drink or two...
  • Check out the Canal during happy hour from 4-7 PM. They have half-priced glasses of wine and martinis and wonderful deals on appetizers. Tomorrow you can join them for "TV Dinner Tuesdays" with entrees such as meatloaf, lobster mac and cheese, and more! http://www.canalaz.com/events.php
  • Margarita Mondays in Old Town at Cien Agaves Tacos and Tequila. $3 margs and half-price appetizers all day long!
  • If your up in North Scottsdale then check out "Sip Stylishly Mondays," at Stone Rose Lounge on Princess Drive. This event features half-priced martinis and glasses of wine all night!
...sounds like tonight should be called half-price fun! What a wonderful reason to make it to work on the dreaded Mondays.

Why you should stay at the Hotel Indigo Scottsdale?

"Very nice hotel filled with great personalities."

"We were able to walk just about everywhere."

"The service at this hotel inspired us to finally sign up with TA (Trip Advisor) and share our wonderful experience. That's how great it was!"

For more information, pictures, and reservations visit us at http://www.scottsdalehiphotel.com/

...Today on the health front, a glass of wine or two will reduce Alzheimer's by 37 percent. That is great, except remember that drinking more than that is twice the risk of non-drinkers! Everything in moderation!  For more information visit the article at, http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5iyQkiiDFAPaTlG8Ga7lDmu5uMBkA

Looking for something different? Then you should check out night splash at SunSplash, held Fridays and Saturdays from 7 to 11 PM through the end of August. http://www.golfland.com/

On the water note...I am still wanting to check out our newest addition to the water park family, Wet'N'Wild. Have heard many great things, but the only negative is that it was designed more for the ages of 8 and up.

"The object is to have fun, and it succeeds in offering some great rides and a great place to have fun with family and friends."

"AWESOME...it's the new Knott's Berry in AZ!! FUN! Lots to do!"

My Random comment of the day...So I sucked it up and finally joined a gym, realizing that it is WAY to hot to work out outside and I am way to lazy to get up at 5 AM to make that possible. The pool is already a bit to hot for swimming laps and my hair is starting to feel like sand paper, eek. I joined Pure Fitness. It was pretty nice and I really liked the setup, not confusing as some gyms can be overwhelming. A great list of classes, two free personal training sessions the first month, and a free session every other month, it was pretty cool.  Overall, I am happy and my legs hurt from my free consultation/training session that I had... OUCH! Be ready to work out and use muscles that you never thought you had. Another great thing is that there is no contract, so come October when the weather cools, if I don't want to work out there anymore, I can just cancel and sign up again next year. I can be a seasonal gym person and seasonal tanner-Hollywood Tans(all standup), both no contracts!  Who wants to be locked in a contract?  I am already stuck in my lease contract, ugh, but thats another story ☺

Our VERY INVITING pool!

LOL Quote~ "Don't leave a piece of jewelry at his house so you can go back and get it later; he may be with his real girlfriend."

Looking for a little inspiration? "Remember that everyone you meet is afraid of something, loves something and has lost something." — H. Jackson Brown Jr.

Boy oh boy is it a hot one today! The summer has officially arrived and will probably be around until September. What should you do tonight to avoid it? See a movie! Bruno just came out today, and Up is suppose to be fabulous as it is up for a grammy, and Public Enemies has also been a much talked about movie starring Johnny Depp and Christian Bale to name a few.

What else is there to do? Well after dark when the temperature has cooled...

  • Saturdays at Axis-Radius nightclub are always a good time! Crowded dance floor where cool air blows to keep everyone "chill" all night long. They have a video DJ,VIP lounge, large color changing skyboxes, and Las Vegas style go-go dancers. For more info visit, http://www.axis-radius.com/event.php?pic=AxisSaturdays.jpg&event=Saturdays&date=July%2011
  • Or you can check out the newest addition to the Old Town nightclubs at Cream Stereo Lounge. Enjoy the best of the best music nightly. Party starts at 9 PM with free admittance for ladies, and nightly drink specials. Music by DJ Earth.
After a night on the town, wouldn't it be great to just walk back to your hotel instead of worrying about finding a cab or a sober driver? Well then book a room with us tonight, http://www.axis-radius.com/event.php?pic=AxisSaturdays.jpg&event=Saturdays&date=July%2011. We are offering fantastic summer rates!  TAKE ADVANTAGE!

RaNdOm Thoughts...I found myself today thinking a lot about the future and thinking about what I wanted out of career, besides my dream to solely be a writer-which might take a while...so I typed in "cool jobs." because I want to do something that I love and not just settle for the first position to come along or the best paycheck. We all dream of having that awesome/fun/exciting career, but how do you find it? Let's see what I find...

-A list of cool jobs at About.com-a pretty reliable source, if I might say so from experience. http://jobsearch.about.com/od/cooljobs/Cool_Jobs_How_to_Find_a_Cool_Job.htm
...Disneyland or Disney World sounds fun...I could be a dancer, an actress, a singer...oh wait I can't sing, haven't danced in years, and am way to shy to act, but for anyone else, thats something to think about!
...MTV, VH1-there is more than just reality TV stars and music videos, they have careers!

In general...all the fastest growing jobs seem to be in the medical field, from nurses to dental assistants to home health aides and a few in the computer/techy industry.

Have a wonderful and safe weekend!

Thirsty Thursday

You Know You're From Arizona If...I would say that these apply mainly to the warmer areas of the state, Crazy things you only see in the southwestern desert...
  • You think someone driving wearing oven mitts is clever.
  • The pool can be warmer than you are.
  • You notice the best parking place is determined by shade instead of distance.
  • You have to explain to out-of-staters why there is no daylight savings time.
  • When someone asks how far you live from a location, it's always in terms of minutes, not miles.
For all 40 visit, http://www.buzzle.com/editorials/7-5-2001-3871.asp

*~*Stay cool this summer, beat the heat*~*
...The heat and the summer in Phoenix can be very draining. You know where I find my inspiration to stay in shape and keep motivated? The library. I know so old fashion, right? But honestly they have everything; air conditioning, self-help and cooking books, and even work out DVD's! I checked out two myself the other day. Come to think of it, places like Blockbuster and Hollywood Video should have work out DVD's for rent-that would be brilliant on their part!
  • Another thing you could do is become an avid movie goer. There are a lot of great films coming out this summer- Harry Potter, Bruno, Transformers, The Ugly Truth, Funny People, Etc. It seems as if there is a movie for everyone from science fiction to chick flicks to comedies.
  • You could visit the Arizona Science Center-www.azscience.org, with 5-story tall movies and interactive exhibits. Or learn more about the city of Phoenix at the Phoenix Museum of History-www.pmoh.org.
  • Book a hotel at Hotel Indigo Scottsdale where you can swim in our refreshing pool, drink pool side margaritas, and enjoy our Divine Lounge in the evening. The rooms are beautiful, each with their own individual design, and we are in walking distance to Scottsdale's hottest nightlife! Great rates now through the end of the summer, http://www.scottsdalehiphotel.com/reservations.php
  • Scottsdale is famous for its Southwest spas. Pamper yourself-grab a pedicure, a hot or cold stone massage, get your hair cut and highlighted, be given a facial, etc. The possibilities are endless! The best spas in the valley are most likely located in the valley resorts, but you don't have to be a guest to take advantage. The top two are probably the Phoenician Spa and the Sanctuary Spa. Heres a more descriptive list, http://spas.about.com/od/toptendayspasbycity/a/bestscottsdale.htm
Where to be tonight?!?!
  • Glitter and Grunge at Dirty Pretty with two-for-one drinks.
  • Check out Geisha A Go Go Asian Bistro's patio karaoke. This Old Town bar and chinese restaurant is worth visiting! Awesome decor and a 20-person karaoke room. You can read/sing the lyrics to over 10,000 songs!
  • Spiked Thursdays at the Desert Botanical Garden. This event is held the second week of each month.

Happy Tuesday!

I thought I would start the day off with some funny quotes, I love quotes by the way!

"Hard work never killed anybody, but why take a chance?"

"If Barbie is so popular, why do you have to buy her friends?"

"If love is blind, why is lingerie so popular?"

*~*Two-for-one Tuesdays in the Divine Lounge. Enjoy your favorite beverages in a relaxing, inspiring, and comfortable bar area! Our wonderful staff will take care of you!*~*

Looking for a summer getaway? I am sure that Phoenix at its triple digits is probably your last choice, but with AMAZING hotel deals and a variety of "stay-cool" entertainment choices, it is a great place to visit! Plus you can beat the hustle and bustle of California or New York. You can save up to 50% by booking early with Hotel Indigo Scottsdale and golf courses around the valley are insanely inexpensive, just start your day as early as possible and then afterward you can cool off in the pool.

Other activities?
Flight Info...I visited the Delta site the other day and they have FABULOUS flight deals! I am finding round trips for like $197! Search weekends or 3 days before and 3 days after at http://www.delta.com/planning_reservations/plan_flight/online_reservations/best_fare_guarantee/index.jsp. For once they are cheaper than Southwest and American Airlines to some locations!

RaNdOm RaNt...So I get an invitation the other day for my 5 year high school reunion, I know your all thinking five year... your still young, but to me its scary! It makes me wonder about where the last five years went, yeah college took up four of those years and then this last very confusing/what the heck have I been doing year, but still life seriously needs to SLOW DOWN! As soon as high school and the daily routine of school from 7-3 ended, life has picked up its pace! I cannot believe I have been living on my own for so long. It makes me kind of sad, but thinking that the good years are yet to come-career, marriage, family, etc keeps my spirits high! Every time I hear about an engagement, get a wedding invitation in the mail or see wedding pictures, I really start to freak out! I am nowhere near that stage of my life yet so many people are...makes you really start to see the differences in the human race and our own life timelines and expectations.

*~*A long holiday weekend for some and a regular relaxing break from stress for others. Whatever you chose to do this weekend, even if you had to work, and the choice was made for you…I hope you still had a great weekend. AND a safe one. Mine was good, but I’ve decided that “I am getting old” even though truth be told I am 23 and should be out partying and living life for all that its worth, but it’s hard for me to keep my eyes open past 10 PM.

I had a small get together, which ended up being a good time, except the cleaning duty the morning after and the fact that I was ready for bed when some of my friends were just getting started. I would say that I am the friend who enjoys seeing movies, going to an art gallery, or going out to eat and no longer the friend to hit the nightlife with, unless it’s a special event. OR my birthday!

That doesn’t mean that I don’t know a thing or two about the Scottsdale nightlife as I was once a pretty avid partier, restaurant guru, and shopaholic-okay so I am still a shopaholic, nevertheless I still know a thing or two about our infamous Old Town area.

Tomorrow night happenings in Downtown Scottsdale…
  • The party nightclub is Cream Stereo Lounge. Their industry night, the only club with a Monday industry night in Scottsdale, is the place to be. The party starts at 10 PM and it features $2 beers, $4 drinks, mixed music, $150 tables, and a relaxed dress code. The inside décor is really something to talk about, check out pictures at http://www.creamstereolounge.com/
  • One of the best happy hours is at Cadillac Ranch. Their happy hour is every day from 4-7 PM and ALL NIGHT on Mondays! This is a bar and grill open for lunch, dinner, and a late night party. Take your chance at the mechanical bull, enjoy country music, and watch sports on their plasma TVs.
  • Salty senorita presents margarita Mondays from 7 PM to close! They offer ½ price house margaritas and have been voted “the best margarita in Phoenix” over seven times! Located in Downtown and North Scottsdale.

**For anyone who has the IPhone I found a great way to turn your MP3s into ringtones without having to pay for the “create ringtone” feature on ITunes. This guy does a great tutorial http://www.labnol.org/software/make-iphone-ringtons-with-free-itunes/4738/

I know everyone is super excited for the holiday weekend. Many people are off work today, taking a vacation, and just happy to have a little time with family and friends. We are all lucky this year that the 4th of July falls on a Saturday! Celebrate the countries declaration of independence the right way-fireworks, food, and entertainment!

**Another big 4th of July party besides Tempe Town Lake is at the Steele Indian School Park in Phoenix. This will be their 24th year in a row! The entertainment begins at 7 PM and the show starts at 9:20, so don't be late! If you want to know more than visit, http://phoenix.about.com/cs/events/a/4thofjulyphx.htm. This site also has links to other parties around the valley.**

*~*Now heres a question...What to do after the firework shows? Its a Saturday night for goodness sakes, who wants to end the party at 10 PM?   The fun should just be getting started!

Stuff to do on the fourth of july before and after fireworks...
  • Pre-party at the 4th of July pool extravaganza held at the Clarion Hotel Scottsdale. This is a NBA-themed party and will have special guest appearances by Atlanta Hawks Mike Bibby and Boston Celtics Eddie House. The party starts at 11 AM.
  • Another big event is the Maxim Magazine casting party. They are having auditions for a chance to be their newest octagon girl, meaning you would appear at all Maxim-sponsored events throughout the country. This event is in Old Town Scottsdale from 10 PM to 2 AM. For more information visit, http://www.maxim.com/
  • If your looking for a nightclub unlike any other in Old Town then check out Cream Stereo Lounge. Saturdays are fun and simple with mixed music from all the top hits on the radio. Party starts at 10 PM.
Other weekend events...

Looking for low key?
  • Check out "The Wizard of Gore," at Farrelli's Cinema Supper Club in North Scottsdale. This is a 1970 movie and will have a full menu and bar. The movie starts at 10 PM tonight.
Looking for a party?
  • Check out South Beach Friday's at the Mondrian Scottsdale hotel. Embrace your latin side with music and $5 mojitos and sangria. The event is in their Asia de Cuba bar from 7 to 10 PM.
Grab a room at Hotel Indigo Scottsdale for $89.00 tonight and tomorrow night if you book online. Such a great deal. Don't drink and drive when the hotel is in walking distance to the areas hottest nightlife. Click the image above!

"Life is not a problem to be solved, but a reality to be experienced."
— Søren Kierkegaard

It may be a cloudy day, but it’s still a warm one! I don’t know about you, but I am already sick of the heat. I think for the rest of the day I will stay inside and catch up on stuff around the house. No sun=no excuse for the pool!

Scottsdale MUST eats…
  • If you’re visting the area make sure to check out the ever so famous In-N-Out Burger. They have a very simple menu, fast and friendly service, and are known for their cleanliness. This is NOT your typical fast food chain. (Located throughout the valley.)
  • Sapporo in North Scottsdale is the place to be on the weekends and for happy hour. This restaurant is always hopping with above par service, delicious food, and a social scene unlike any other. Their outside patio, located in front of the restaurant, is always packed full of people talking and having a good time. The cuisine is Japanese-the sushi and fried rice are to die for-check it out for yourself!
  • The Yard House located in Old Town Scottsdale in the Fashion Square Mall is another must eat. They are a brewery and have a variety of yummy beers on tap. I also love their happy hour-3 to 6 PM and 10 to 12 PM, martinis, wings, and delicious salads-they have a pear walnut salad that is amazing!

I really love this article on good self esteem and living life with the glass half full. I read this article and it was so inspiring to me, http://www.streetdirectory.com/travel_guide/8251/self_improvement_and_motivation/glass_half_full.html.

...Another thing I want to check out is Michael J. Fox’s new book Always Looking Up. I saw him last night on David Letterman and was so pleased and almost jealous over his optimism towards life. I wish that I could live my life that way! Hopefully his book can inspire me. It is for sale on Amazon for $17.00 and that is the hardcover version.

**It seems that Tempe Town Lake 4th of July festival is going to be the place to be for the upcoming holiday. They are suppose to have the best fireworks show in the valley, music, family fest with rock climbing wall, face painters, relay races, etc, and a food court for all to enjoy. Entry is free for anyone with a current military ID. If you want to learn more about the event visit their website at http://www.tempe4th.com/index.asp.
