Its another hot one today in the valley of the sun!  Just spent almost four hours playing tennis...I must be crazy!  I felt like my shoes were melting into the ground and by the end of the game my limbs were quite numb.  I am now happy to be sitting at home enjoying the cool air conditioning, but feel satisfied that I fit in a work out, even if I felt like I was going to pass out at times.

**If your a local and your looking for something new and social, check out the Scottsdale Public Library website.  They hold readings, arts and crafts, computer classes, and even an open music night for all to enjoy.  For more information visit, http://library.scottsdaleaz.gov/**

RaNdOm...I love Craigslist.  I have decided that it is the best internet site for selling and buying.  Who wants to deal with paying Ebay fees when you can sell your stuff for free without worrying about shipping!?  I sold my first generation IPhone for $150 and then bought a 55 gallon fish tank with a beautiful stand and everything included for $125!  SO WORTH IT!

Love to sing?  Join Fox 10 on June 29th for "Fox 10 Arizona Idol."  This event is held in Glendale at the AMC Westgate 20 starting at 8 AM.  This competition gives some a chance to win an audition in front of an "American Idol" producer for the Denver, Colorado auditions on July 14.  http://www.myfoxphoenix.com/dpp/azam/corys_corner1_062909

"You know you live in Phoenix when you can drive four hours in any one direction and never leave the Valley." ~Author Unknown

*~*Hello Friday and let me officially welcome all readers to the weekend*~*

...Before heading out in the infamous Scottsdale nightlife, make sure to visit our Divine Lounge, one of the only spots in Scottsdale offering Friday night "happy hour."

What to do after?

  • Head up to North Scottsdale for the Angels and Outlaws grand opening beginning at 4 PM tonight. $6 drinks all night.
*~*Fun, silly, goofy Friday...hey even when working from home Friday can still be a day of celebration...while out having lunch today I noticed certain Friday trends.

You know its Friday when...
  • There is not much work to be done
  • You see the energy drink promotional girls handing out free stuff at Walmart
  • Everyone at the office is smiling, laughing, or making jokes of some sort
  • When you are offered free shots on your lunch break
  • You hit the gym extra early this morning to make up for the happy hour your attending when you leave the office today
  • You have time to go to the mall before hitting afternoon traffic
Heres some other fun ones that I found online:  You know your from Arizona when...
  • You think a red light is merely a suggestion
  • You think 60 tons of crushed rock makes a beautiful yard-ha thats great
  • People break out coats when the temperature drops below 70 degrees
  • The water from the cold water tap is the same temperature as the hot one
  • You experience third degree burns if you touch any metal part of your car- I'd say almost any part of your car
Heres a few of my own in regards to the same topic...
  • When everyone spends their summers in Colorado or California
  • Your a minority if you stay in AZ for the summer and everyone gives you crazy looks when you tell them so
  • Rain makes you happy
  • Your swimming pool becomes your hot tub come August and September
  • You start to hear from long lost cousins and relatives come October because they are looking for a place to visit
**If you want to be on the show "So You Think You Can Dance" then today and tomorrow are auditions at Phoenix Convention Center, starting today at 8 AM and tomorrow at 2 PM. Two finalists, Ashley and Ade-who is still in the running for America's favorite dancer, are both from the valley.

Please become a follower and be my friend...the widget is on the left hand side...it only takes a minute!

Come grab a drink on our beautiful terrace...enticing right?

Interesting Quote...Do you agree with it?
"Remember: the time you feel lonely is the time you most need to be by yourself. Life's cruelest irony."
— Douglas Coupland (Shampoo Planet)

*~*Today is a rare day for the Phoenix area...clouds, rain, and humidity, which don't quite fit "the valley of the sun" saying, but for most Arizonians this is a good thing! In spite of that, it is Thursday! Big party night for the Scottsdale area, one day away from FRIDAY, and a little over a week away from the 4th of July holiday weekend...YAHOO! Vacation time for most!*~*

Things to do tonight...
  • A dive bar, Giligins, located in downtown Scottsdale has a casual atmosphere along with a famous bartender called Chuey the Rock and Roll midget. Chuey the midget also does karaoke on Thursdays for all to enjoy. Catch a drink during happy hour from 4-7 PM with $2 well cocktails, wine by the glass, and beer.
  • Looking for a happening place with good drinks and sushi? Check out Stingray Sushi for a hip and fun atmosphere. Great specials during happy hour featuring a fishbowl-sized Godzilla for $8 a person.
  • Ladies night at Axis/Radius with two-clubs in one. No line or cover for ladies and women pay only $3 for drinks. There are different promotions, DJS, and giveaways every week.
  • Heres something new, Game Tight Thursday's at JJ's Sports Cantina in downtown, Scottsdale. The event starts tonight at 9 and runs until the bar shuts down at 2 AM. The event costs $10. Join Trill Talk radio host for an open mike hip-hop and dance night. Prizes will be given away. Bring out your inner rap star this evening!
Random rant for the day...
So the new IPhone? Is it all about the name? Does it really live up to its reputation? I have an older model of the Iphone, probably the first model that came out and so today I went into an AT&T store to find out more about the new IPhone 3G S. I ended up going into a store that didn't carry it, but I learned that you cannot actually send pictures or videos quite yet and that the phone was released before this component was ready and capable... seems kind of odd. I guess that feature will be available come August-ish, but will it cost money to upgrade, take time to upgrade, etc...who knows? I ended up going with the Samsung Eternity which cost me half the price and sends videos, pictures, texts both ways, can do live video, has actual TV stations such as MTV, Nickelodeon, MSNBC, ETC, and a whole lot more! A really great deal and I got a good price at a location in North Scottsdale by Northsight and Raintree area. Check it out!

**The 4th of July holiday is right around the corner. Looking for something to do? Me too... lets see what I found...

First off, there is something for everyone from concerts, to firework shows, to water play, to smaller easy-going events!
Not all cities are hosting fireworks shows this year, partially due to the economy, but with a little bit of a drive you should have no problem finding something to do! Fireworks can be found in the following cities; Anthem, Apache Junction, Casa Grande, Chandler, Gilbert, Goodyear, Litchfield Park, Maricopa, Peoria, Phoenix, Surprise, and Tempe.

Looking for a Concert...
  • Rawhide at Wildhorse Pass in Chandler, Arizona's largest western-theme park, is hosting a large 4th of July event. There will be stunt and magic shows, singing, rock climbing wall, mechanical bull, an opportunity to take old western photos, shop at more than 10 stores, an aerial fireworks display, and you can eat at the Rawhide Steakhouse and Saloon. It costs $15.00 to get in to the park.
Interested in lakeside and a large crowd, TV crews included...
  • Tempe Fireworks display is very popular, held at Tempe Town Lake near ASU. The gates for the event open at 4 PM with inflatable rides, rock climbing, live entertainment, food, and the Budweiser Beer Garden. Children under 12 are free and tickets at the door are $8 for one and $15 for two. Buy tickets in advance at Fry's for $5. For more information and pictures visit, http://www.tempe4th.com/
Want to see the largest free fireworks show in the valley of the sun...
  • It takes place in the city of Phoenix. The fun starts at 6 PM and runs until 10 PM. There will be local entertainment, misting area, classic car show, inflatable rides, and you can cool down in the water spray zone hosted by the Phoenix Fire Department. Fireworks begin at 9:20 PM. Admission is free and food and beverages are available for purchase. http://phoenix.gov/news/061909fabphx4th.html
Low key holiday...
  • Scottsdale's 4th of July activities are not as large as some of the other cities in the valley. They are hosting a laid back picnic affair without huge crowds. It is held at the Scottsdale stadium from 5 to 7 PM. At this BBQ letters will be written to our servicemen and women and care packages will be sent. You can take part in games and crafts. People are urged to bring their own picnic dinner as grills are available. There are no fireworks at this event, but maps of nearby events will be provided. Admission is free.
*~*If your not into fireworks then go see a movie. There are many great movies being released all summer long. Or take a stay-vacation! Hotel Indigo Scottsdale has rates at just $72.00 a night on 4th of July weekend! *~*

Sunday, June 21, 2009

*~*HAPPY FATHER'S DAY TO ALL OF THE DADS OUT THERE! Hope you are all spending time with your family on this special day. The weather is warm in Scottsdale, but sunny so hopefully you are either laying poolside or enjoying some air conditioning in a movie or restaurant.*~*

"Who are you to judge the life I live?
I know I'm not perfect
-and I don't live to be-
but before you start pointing fingers...
make sure you hands are clean!"

— Bob Marley

*What a great quote and so very true! We live in a life where it seems like everyone is always blaming, talking about, or doing something negative to someone and it seems like everyone is "calling the kettle black." Devoid your life of judgment, live your life for YOU, and give off a positive aura...stop worrying about what others do or have and then everything in life will finally start to fall into place. Just a little wisdom from a non-expert

Coming to the Valley...
  • A brand new water park is coming to the Phoenix area bringing new rides and attractions for all to enjoy. Wet'n'Wild is due to open sometime this month and will remain open until the beginning of November. By a season pass in advance for $64.97 with tax. That is a FANTASTIC deal because daily rates are $34.99 plus tax. Attractions include a wave pool, tornado water slide, desert racers, lazy river, raging river family ride, an area where guests can boogie board against different elements, and a whole lot more from individual cabanas to a children's zone. http://phoenix.mywetnwild.com/
  • The ever so popular retail clothing store H&M is coming to Scottsdale. This will be in the new Scottsdale Quarter across from the Kierland area. This is a high fashion store with low affordable prices. People drive to different states and cities to experience the clothing phenomenon and now from all over the valley. If you have ever visited New York, where H&M is on every corner or the Mall of America then you have shopped at the international retail giant. The store will be here this fall, hopefully just in time for some back to school shopping, but be prepared for the lines!
  • We have a lot of music stars coming to the valley this fall including the Jonas Brother, August 11th and Miley Cyrus September 25th. BOTH are already on sale, so be sure to check out ticketmaster.com before you miss out on these and other popular concerts including Keith Urban and Eric Clapton both here this summer.
**Keeping all of this in mind be sure to book a room at Hotel Indigo Scottsdale in advance and save BIG, up to 50%. I am talking like $75.00 a night...yes, something crazy like that! Even grab a suite for right around $100! This hotel will put you in the central location of Downtown Scottsdale.** http://www.scottsdalehiphotel.com/reservations.php

If you book on this site you can stay any two nights and get 1 free, http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/in/1/en/hotel/phxin

Check out some guest commentary below...

"The use of Aveda products was a plus and the bath robe (the most important part) was extremely comfortable."

"The staff pleasant and check-in/check-out was quick and easy. I would definitely stay there again."

"Too bad they don't have many other Hotel Indigos around or they would get more business from me (i.e. my company)."

"While I am in agreement with others regarding the IKEA-esque feel, I thought that this was a great hotel due to pricing and location."

*~*Tonight in the Divine Lounge, enjoy $3 domestics and $4 well cocktails before a night on the town.*~*

Tonight? Well, after sharing a few drinks on our divine terrace under the stars check out the nightclub Axis/Radius for their "Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy" annual event. Take part in a bull-riding competition, munch on bbq chicken and tacos, and sip on various drink specials all night long!

Today's Random Rant...Recession?!?! More like CRAZY shoppers Saturday. All I saw today was SALES, PEOPLE, and MORE SALES! Stopped by Macys one day sale, Marshalls-always insane, but found a few great deals, and Old Navy for their $2 tank top sale and 50% off everything else-all had long long lines and crowds of shoppers! If the recession is still in progress its not taking any toll on these stores!

Lots of new activities to see and do around here...
  • This weekend the Phoenix Convention Center is hosting Big Boys and Their Toys. It is the 2009 Arizona men's expo. Being held today until 8 PM, and tomorrow from 9 AM - 6 PM. The price ranges from $5 to $12.50. Look at boats, gadgets, and motorcycles while enjoying beverages from the bar and a happy hour from 5 to 8 PM today and 4 to 6 PM tomorrow, in the 18 and older zone. For more information visit, http://www.bigboysandtheirtoys.com/. Still need a father's day gift? This may be the PERFECT present/activity.
  • The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus is coming to town next week. The event starts June 24th and is being held through June 28th at the US Airways Center. The times of the shows vary and the price ranges from $13 to $80. If you live in the area you can even take the light rail, which would be the third stop, Street-Washington. The shows are always a lot of fun; watch a variety of animals and human acrobats, eat sugar filled snacks, and enjoy a smell like none other-ha.
  • The place to be on Thursday, June 25th is in Scottsdale at the Angels and Outlaws nightclub grand opening. Located on Shea in North Scottsdale, it is going to be a no attitude, everyones welcome, and feel comfortable type of bar. Decorated in black and white western pictures, chandeliers, faux-crocodile finish, and a runway-like platform... this bar will quickly become a club of success.
  • Don't miss the Phoenix Warped Tour 2009 at Cricket Pavilion on Tuesday, June 30th. Some of the more popular bands will be 3OH!3, A Day to Remember, Aiden, Bad Religion, Less Than Jake, Senses Fail, The Devil Wears Prada, and many more! You can buy tickets online at, http://www.livenation.com/edp/eventId/406424?c=wpt-website-warpedtour or I also saw them for sale at Blockbuster Video. Tickets are $31.72. Other good groups coming in town are 311, The Fray with Jacks Mannequin, and the American Idol Tour.
  • The Twilight Tour is coming to Phoenix, AZ on August 14 through the 16th. The event is being held at the Wigwam Resort in Litchfield Park. The three day convention may be a bit of a drive from the Scottsdale area, but for any craze fan it is sure worth it. Learn more about the epic series of books and the feature film! During the convention you will get to meet with guest stars of the film-Twilight's Jasper Hale, Alice Cullen, and more, take part in themed parties, contests, get autographs, photo ops, and enjoy live musical performances all weekend! “If you want to live a happy life, tie it to a goal, not to people or things.” A quote from the one and only Albert Einstein! He was not only intelligent and brilliant, but he was also wise to make such a statement.

...Shopping, shopping, shopping I feel like that is all I ever do, well when I'm not at home writing or on the internet checking Facebook, Twitter, etc! Okay, so I lied, I played tennis today too, but that was at the crack of dawn and it feels like it was yesterday. I am just relived and excited that the weekend is here AND for once in a blue moon, I am doing more than hitting the local sports bar or going to a movie. I am throwing a party and attending a BBQ, WAHOO I love a change of pace.  I love having activities planned, I look forward to them all week!

**The wait is over and the weekend has arrived. What's going on this Friday and Saturday night? Let's find out...
Well tonight is a no brainer...Bossa Nova Lounge at the one and only Hotel Indigo Scottsdale then take your pick at either Axis/Radius, Suede, Crown Room, or one of the many other hot spots in Downtown Scottsdale.

**Today I discovered my new found love for the library. I haven't been to the library in years and today I took the girl I nanny for and discovered all that it has to offer! Books, music, movies, and wireless internet. What more could a person ask for? Not only do they have all those things, but it is all free to check out! Why go to Blockbuster or Barnes and Noble when you can just go to the library?  If your looking to get some work done, it is quite peaceful.

If your a UPromise member, click on it from the site and save 5% on your college loans, http://www.zazzle.com/. Great site for Father's Day gifts.

*~*Free marketing as far as Twitter, Facebook, and possibly MySpace may start to charge businesses fees to use these services. Would you pay to read tweets? Most are saying probably not. Should there be advertising on Twitter? A sight primarily for social networking does not need advertisements in my opinion. We see advertising all day long and everywhere we go... we need a place to escape the crazy world of ads and let Twitter be it! Will the owners of Twitter escape the world of money hungry individuals? Let's hope so... Read more about this at http://www.informationweek.com/blog/main/archives/2008/11/would_you_pay_f.html;jsessionid=1WFIF52H40JFYQSNDLPSKH0CJUNN2JVN

Twitter comment from fellow Twitter member...jennymesserly, an interactive designer from Scottsdale, "ive heard great things about your hotel. looking forward to getting the inside scoop & stopping in for a cocktail sometime!"

Happy Tuesday! Two-for-one drink specials tonight in the Divine Lounge. Come mingle with friends and family.  Join us under the stars on the Divine terrace while the weather is still tolerable!

"May you live every day of your life."
— Jonathan Swift

*~*Random thought of the day...For as long as people can remember we have been forced to laugh at joke after joke when interacting with people, family included.  Some knee-slappers are quite entertaining while others lack in the creativity and humorous department.  I think I notice it most when working in a customer service type position, but then again working with anyone in general, brings witty banter. Some joshing can be quite entertaining while others terribly awful. What do you do when a joke isn't funny? Do you throw out a fake laugh, smile, or something equally polite to not completely blow off the statement?  Or do you stand stiff, awkwardly awaiting the next subject?  I guess that depends on the person

Things to do...Bars are dropping prices, hotels are running specials, and customer service has been improved, intensified, and enhanced! TAKE ADVANTAGE.

Tonight...
  • Rotation Tuesdays at Geisha A Go Go Asian Bistro Lounge. Tuesdays are open for local DJs who want a chance to spin for up to 30 minutes. If you get a good reaction then you may be asked to return. Sip on $3 Skyy Vodka cocktails and $2 Kirin Drafts.
  • Eat at the Canal for TV Dinner Tuesdays. The price is $19.95 per meal. Choose from meatloaf, chicken pot pie, lobster macaroni and cheese, and many others. Dinner is served on TV dinner-style platters with a 30-foot projection screen showing television classics such as "I Love Lucy."  This activity sounds like such a good time and a great way to mix up the routine of life! http://www.canalaz.com/
This week...
  • Visit the American Fine Art Editions to see LeRoy Neiman's artwork, one of our most important artists living today. He is one of the most popular artists in the U.S.; drawing sports, animal portraits, celebrity portraits (contributing to Playboy), CBS Super Bowl computer art, and depictions of famous locations. Be sure to visit his work as it is highly regarded. To find out more visit the galleries website, http://www.americanfineartgallery.com/artists/Leroy_Neiman/neiman_bio.html. The visit is free and you can call 480-990-1200 for more information.
  • Eat ice cream for charity at Ben and Jerry's to support prevention programs and services for HIV/AIDS when purchasing the flavor "Goodbye Yellow Brickle Road."

“It's beauty that captures your attention; personality which captures your heart.”

By now a lot of children are on summer break, snowbirds have gone back home to enjoy a much cooler summer, and many families are traveling to beat the heat. Just because its hot and many people are escaping the valleys extraordinarily sizzling hot summers...this is not such a HORRIBLE endeavor if you are in Phoenix for the majority of the summer. *~*

Positives...

  • Relaxed summer dress codes at work
  • AMAZING summer specials at Hotel Indigo Scottsdale, when booked online in advance...$67-$75
  • Get great deals on VIP admissions at many of the local nightclubs
  • Various drink specials all week long

Today’s rant…So what is it about moving that gives us this happy-medium feeling? I am currently moving in another roommate and reorganizing a two-bedroom/two bath for three people, yeah not exactly a favorable living arrangement, but you do what you have to in times of slow business! Not only was I wrong about how much stuff they owned, but I was reminded of how much stuff I have. I piled box after box, as I put away my winter clothes, making room in my closet for not only my possessions. I find myself saying, “I have no clothes,” yet I had not one extra hanger in my closet, until I boxed my winter belongings. Who owns three hair dryers, 100 plus shoes, and at least 30 pairs of jeans, but claims they have no clothes? I know that I am not the only one!

Have a wonderful weekend!

**Remember Father’s Day is just around the corner… I myself got onto Walgreens.com and decided to make my dad a calendar. They are currently running a 25% off special on Father’s Day Gifts.

This weekend's most anticipated event...
**Blue Ribbon Bacon Tour, a much talked about event kicks off in Phoenix, Arizona this Sunday, June 7th from 1 PM to 5 PM. The price is $35 in advance and $40 at the door. This price includes a signed book, food, and two drink tickets. This event is being held at Renee's Grand Tavern. Meet the author of bacon blog, a blog that has attracted people from all over the world. This blog began as a joke, but Heather Lauer soon discovered the "bacon nation" and landed a book deal through it all. You know your bacon obsessed when you make a comment like this, "Even the left over grease is good to use..." or "I've experimented with it by putting it in brownies," both are definite health risks, taking a major toll on your body! To find out more visit, http://baconnation.ning.com/events/blue-ribbon-bacon-tour. Might be quite the party!

-There will also be a book signing in Glendale, AZ today from 2 to 3 PM at the Velma Teague Branch Library.  http://baconnation.ning.com/
